Some bling and a skull

Halloween, don't you just love Halloween?
I do because I can go all out spooky with the Powertex and my artwork.

So without further ado, here is my Halloween project for this month.
I have had this skull for eons and knew that at some point I would be able to use it.

I started by painting the skull with IVORY POWERTEX as I had an idea in my head.
I gathered some embellishments and bits of lace type material and started applying to the skull.

After I was happy with what I had added to the skull I painted the whole thing with some more Ivory Powertex and then added one of my favorite products from Powertex, some STONE ART.
I waited for it to dry a bit and then rubbed the stone art to add to the texture.

Now my finished result was not what I had in mind to create, I was going for a ivory and beige/faux bone type but this is what evolved.

I ended up getting out the new MICA POWDERS from the Secret Art Loft and added some gems, this is a bit lighter and colorful to my usual style but it is pretty... for a skull  :)

The STONE ART helped the embellishments to blend in with the skull. I repainted the eye and nose sockets and added shadow to the teeth area

I dare say I may make some more spooky Powertex projects before Christmas gets here, oops did I say the C word, sorry!!

You can see more of my projects at Mums Shed  and if I or any of the other Powertex Design Team have inspired you, go on over to Powertex.co.uk

Harvest Goddess

Well, yet another month has passed and boy has this one gone by so quickly before we know it Christmas will be here!! YES, I said it, the C word... oops

So this month the Powertex Design team were given keywords for creative ideas and I chose Harvest. I started thinking about Harvest, did some research and found a lovely goddess called "Demeter"
She is  the goddess of the grain, agriculture, harvest, growth, and nourishment, who presided over grains and the fertility of the earth, I have set about recreating her in my own way.

I had some barbie type dolls and decided it was time to use one of those as my Goddess. I made a base from wood and used an old knife to make her sturdy and wrapped tape to add her to the knife and wood base. I have used BRONZE POWERTEX as my base colour. I then picked out some STOCKINETTE material for her dress and set about making some flowers and leaves from clay to add as embellishments
I soaked the material in the Powertex and started dressing my Goddess.  I pinned up her hair and have cut it, as I plan to add embellishments to her head later.

And with the magic of COLORTRICX and a bit of a paint job, she is now looking like this.

Meet Demeter, my version of the Goddess of Harvest
I hope you have enjoyed this blog and maybe even get inspired to try out Powertex yourself.,
If you fancy ago but need some guidance why not try looking here for a tutor near you

Until next time, be happy and give that Powertex bottle a shake!!!

Artful keepsake

Hello, hello one and all.

My project this time is all about keepsakes and memories.
I had loads of ideas running around my head but as I am sorting my home to relocate and having to downsize drastically, this also means my craft stash in my shed, which I have been collecting for about the past 18 years or so!!
So whilst sorting out my stash I came across some pieces that I have collected over the years and have loved and never used, I would get them out to use and put them back, saving them for that "other" project and this my lovelies was this project!
Hands up anyone else who does that, oh come on, we are all friends here lol.

Ok, so I took an old small pine box (another loved object that has been kicking around my shed for a couple of years) and collected some of my loved pieces and decided to make an assemblage of these pieces.

I applied some Ivory Powertex and STONE ART over the box, inside and outside. This has to be one of my favourites, using the Stone Art.

I found some metal bookmarks that I had been hoarding and also incorporated these into my design.
I glued in my pieces and spritzed with red and brown BISTER. I still had no idea with which colour scheme to do and was waiting for my muse to kick in and let me know!

I ended up also adding some EASY 3D to the sides of my piece, using the Alice in Wonderland stencil. I painted the whole box with black Powertex and then was going for a stone look by adding some Ivory Powertex.  Pigments you can see in the photo are what I wanted to use!

I layered (lots of layers) in these 4 colours here until I was happy with the end result. I don't know about you but I could lose hours and hours just doing this part.

I wanted the inside of my assemblage to be different from the outside, so chose colours that I don't normally use and my gosh did it turn out yummy. Again lots of layering with dry brushing.

And this is the end result, An Assemblage of treasured pieces I have collected but never used, now all in one place for me to look at and for it to be pretty. And small enough for me to take with me when I move next month. Win, win I'd say.

I hope I have not bored you too much, maybe I may even have inspired you to try something like this yourself. I really love working with Powertex and it's endless possibilities of turning nothing into something and something into a keepsake, which is also a piece of art.
~See you all soon~

Teatime in wonderland, wearing my best hat!

Hello lovely people.
I hope you enjoyed the show on Hochanda and it has got your creative juices flowing.
I was lucky enough to try out the project packs before the show and I have to say I really enjoyed doing them.

I created the hat first as my muse was screaming at me to do that one.
Sadly I did not do step by step photos as I was way too excited to crack on and play.

I had a piece of quite chunky crochet material I wanted to use and this was just the job.
I first laid out all the parts of the kit and decided how I was going to display them, before getting out the Powertex and going for it.
My muse already knew what colour theme I was going to do, so first I painted the top hat in the BLUEBERRY PIE and MOJITO LIME
Paint and Powertexed my crochet material and laid it on the hat.

I used the green and did a bit of blending with the blueberry and dry brushed with the white pigment to highlight.
I added the rice papers to the playing cards and added texture in the form of sand balls to the top part of the cards.
I took the feather and added texture to that using stone art and Powertex and used a pokey tool to make it look like a feather, dry brushed with black.

I used more of the crochet material to the bottom part of the hat and then measured and soaked some material to give it a more 3D effect to the middle part of the hat.
I used easy 3D FLEX on the tag and gave it a crackle effect using some brown bister and added the MDF numbers and painted them with easy varnish mixed with black pigment.
And my mad hatter's hat I felt was completed.

The next kit I found more of a creative challenge and my muse was stumped on how to go about this one, I think as the rice papers are so pretty, it kind of threw me a little, as this is not more normal style!
I sat and played around with combinations for a while until I decided upon a design my muse liked but once I started, I did not stop until it was done.

Firstly I wet ripped the rice paper, by this I mean if you dunk a fine paintbrush in water and run it around the part of the rice paper/tissue paper you want to use, it comes away quite easy and looks a better finish when laid down on a structure.
I then added lace to other parts of the teapot and cups and saucers and decoratively painted the flowers and flamingo and the little mouse on the top. I added a piece of string dipped in transparent Powertex. I painted the MDF wording in the blue paint and stuck down using Powertex as my glue.
I forgot the mention I added a few lace butterflies as well.
It turned out very pretty (for me) and I loved incorporating the rice papers into my design.
I hope all the design team blogs on this theme have inspired you all.
Until my next blog .... Go be creative

Winter Fairy House

Today I'm going to show you a step by step of how I made my Fairy house, using the Fairy house kit from Powertex as we all love a bit of magic and fantasy.
I hope you find it easy to follow and have fun, making your very own.
This is the kit that I used.

First I set about placing, so I had an idea of what I was going to achieve.
I painted the fairy house in black Powertex.

I then chose some material from my stash and dipped in the BlackPowertex and laid over my roof and then dried it.

I then decided to add some texture to the base of the Fairy house,
using the 3D Sand balls.

I then decided to use the Powertex ,Paperdecoration for my main texture. This is a really lovely texture as once saturated with the Powertex it stretches and makes a really nice texture.

I next set about making some texture for my Fairy door and I used the same method as above with the 3D sand and Black Powertex, only I added more to make a kind of paste. I then used a palette knife to smooth it on the door and ran a crochet hook in lines to give it a wood effect, let it dry.
I also added some of the lace from the kit, to under the roof, to add extra texture.

In the next three photos, whilst the door was drying I started to decorate three of the toadstools from the kit. Again I used  3D Sand for the texture and this time, some red Powertex.

I did two layers with the red Powertex and 3D sand to add some depth and I painted the stalks with Ivory Powertex.

I then used some Mocha pigment and dragged it through the wet Ivory Powertex, to create lines, making my Toadstools look more lifelike.
I then wanted to incorporate the stencil onto my Fairy house but the Paperdecoration was too textured if you like, so I had to find a way to get the stencil to work. I came up with the idea of laying down some masking tape, to make a smoother surface, to add the stencil. To create the texture to add to the stencil, yep, you guessed it I used the 3D Sand and Black Powertex to form a paste and palette over the stencil. I then dried it with my trusty hairdryer, as I did not want to smudge the text.

I then added my windows and chosen embellishments and painted with black Powertex and dried.
I already had a colour theme and chose these Pigment colours and began to dry brush onto my fairy house. The beauty of this technique is if you don't like it, you can change your mind and re-do it!

And here is the end result.

These are the bits I had left, along with some lace, which I know I will definitely use in another Powertex project.

I really enjoyed making this kit and I hope to see all the Fairy houses you create.
Feel free to share them on the Powertex Addicts page on Facebook.
